Behaviour Towards Umpires

Behaviour Towards Umpires

RE: Recent Judiciary hearing regarding alleged Umpire abuse

As a result of a recent Judiciary hearing regarding allegations of umpire abuse at a junior hockey match, I have been asked by the Judiciary Convenor to write to all hockey clubs that form Sydney South Hockey Association and reinforce the Board position that this type of conduct from coach, manager, spectator or player is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Where proven, the Judiciary will deal strongly with these matters. As an outcome of the judiciary investigation, the role of Technical Bench Official at matches played within any SSHA competition match will be better defined.

Abuse at any hockey match directed at any person or group of people is unacceptable irrespective of the player age group. I ask that all clubs advise their members of the Board’s position and that you refer members to the attached “Let them Play” and “Sydney South Hockey Association Behaviour of Coaches and Parents” document.
