Sydney South Hockey will be running all types of hockey competitions this winter at our fields at Marang Parklands. Something for nearly everyone and all played at the same place each week!
In 2020 we will be running the following competitions.
Hockey Joeys
For children aged under 7, Hockey Joeys is all about introducing the youngest players to hockey. Played on Saturday mornings with teams of 5 a side, players will learn skills before playing games on one-eighth of a full sized field. Hockey Joeys is about fun, learning, making new friends and fun!
Under 11s
For children aged under 11, our Under 11 competition aims to develop team and positional skills and to build on the skills learnt in Hockey Joeys although plenty of players start playing hockey in Under 11s. Games are played on Saturday mornings with 6 a side, including a goalie and played on half a full sized field. Under 11s players also have the opportunity to play in representative teams and at carnivals.
Full field juniors
For older children and teenagers, full field juniors is 11 a side hockey played to standard hockey rules. There are a number of age groups and games are played either Friday night or Saturday mornings, allowing for different skill levels. Full field juniors is competitive but there is still an emphasis on fun, being good sports and enjoyment.
Players playing full field juniors can represent Sydney South Hockey at Hockey NSW state championships and many of our players have also represented NSW and Australia. Representative teams also provide the opportunity for players from different clubs to play together, building camaraderie across our competition.
Marang Womens
Women and older girls can play full field hockey on Saturday afternoons. One place, no travelling! The Marang Womens competition is 11 a side hockey played on full field and is social yet competitive.
This competition has continued to expand and many women are making the return to hockey via the Marang Womens Competition.
